Floyd

Blue Ridge Plateau

Floyd is a rural community with an appreciation for rural living. Recent downtown improvements offer the possibility of a sustainable local economy with an active commercial center. This, together with the well established arts community of Floyd and emerging artisan-agriculture based businesses make for a lively sense of growth and energy.

Music Meca

Floyd, a one-stop-light town, is on the map as a Music Meca, and many of the 'Greats' have enjoyed performing in our small town.

Heritage Music

Floyd is an epicenter of old-time and bluegrass music. The Floyd Country Store, County Sales and The Crooked Road are all dedicated to Virginia’s heritage music. The Friday Night Jamboree has been happening in downtown Floyd every Friday night for decades. People come out of the wood-work to play music in the street and to listen and dance to music in the Country Store.

World Music

Along side the traditional music, there has been a raise in awareness of world music. Starting in 1990’s the Pine Tavern and Oddfella’s Cantina gave rise to a new kind of music appreciation in Floyd. At the same time, Blue Cow Arts was founded to promote diversity in music by increasing social awareness through music, art and cultural education. Later the folks at Blue Cow held the first annual FloydFest in 2002 and exposed Floyd to a wider range of sounds and sights.

The Road Less Traveled

Country Vistas

Gentle scenic highways allow you to enjoy the drive while passing vistas of green hills and distant blue mountains. By the time you arrive in Town you have transformed your mind, your pace, and your ability to have an enjoyable time. The drive is part of the magic of Floyd. Its long enough to make it special, but short enough to make it often.

Blue Ridge Parkway

And if your really in the mood for a scenic drive the Blue Ridge Parkway runs the entirety of the eastern county line. Spring flame azaleas and Fall autumn leaves, make the drive a destination.

Local Lodging

When your wanting to make a weekend getaway out of it there is a plethora of options. Quaint motels in town include the Hotel Floyd(walking distance), Oak Haven Lodge, and the Pine Lodge; while B&Bs are a dime a dozen. Check the Chamber of Commerce for a full list of options.
